When in doubt, wear black

At David's Road, we celebrate black color in fashion. Over many years of business, this color has led us to customers who come from radically different backgrounds, but tend to be daring, willing to take risks and often have distinctive confidence. With the new Fall/Winter 2021/22 collection arriving soon, we thought it would be timely to take a peek into the history of the arguably most popular color in the modern fashion designer's palette.

If black was a human, it would have had more reinventions than Madonna. Black was a symbol of mourning for the ancient Greeks. It was associated with royalty in the fourteenth century. Philip the Good was the first monarch who dressed in black to differentiate himself from other members of the court. In the 19th century, wearing black was perceived as sexist due to black clothing being worn exclusively by men because women's defined role was considered to be decorative and colorful. Of course, black ultimately became a symbol of style with Coco Chanel's little black dress.

Since then black has been a constant theme in the global fashion industry used by every designer in all sorts of collections. It arguably became the favorite color of Nordic countries and, for the past several decades, Japanese designers have embraced black as an entire concept and even a lifestyle.

Black is empowering. It unifies the silhouette, shows your ambitions, accentuates individuality and, for some, creates a safe distance between them and the rest of the world. Needless to say, it never overshadows the person wearing it. Black clothing is a catalyst that doesn't hide the truth about its owner.

Last but not the least, black attire is versatile and convenient to wear. When wearing black, the same outfit can work for multiple occasions: office dress code, dinner party, etc. As a color, black gives you the flexibility to travel comfortably, engage in physical activities or simply have a fun night out in the city with the luxury of freedom and confidence to visit any location from a museum to a nightclub. So yes, whenever you have a doubt about what to wear, always know that you can never go wrong with wearing black.
